During the holidays we participate in Operation Christmas Child by filling shoeboxes that are distributed to needy children all over the globe. Also, this past Christmas we collected donations for adults living in a group residential facility. We provided them with new bedding and other needed items to help make their Christmas special. Throughout the year we host several special events that provide a time not only to be in fellowship together but also to serve God and our community. Each year our churches sponsor an annual chicken barbecue. It serves as a fundraiser for our important ministries, but it’s also a time of fun! Additionally, St. James celebrates the Lord’s Acre in November (see below). Dating back to the 1950s, St. James began this tradition by encouraging church members to donate profits from an acre of their harvest to help build a Fellowship Hall. The endeavor was a huge success and has been a staple of St. James ever since!
